SPERONI BEGAN ITS EXPERIENCE IN TOOL MANAGEMENT IN 1979
IN 1980 SPERONI CONCEIVED, DEVELOPED AND INSTALLED IN ITALY THE FIRST CENTRALIZED AND COMPUTERIZED TOOL ROOM.
It was composed of 4 Speroni presetters with 8008 Intel based microprocessor units and linked to a Speroni central unit (DEC PDP 11/03 modified for multi tasking jobs) and customer mainframe (PDP 11/73). It was installed at NUOVO PIGNONE in Firenze – currently GE Oil&Gas – for the production of turbines and compressors.
In 1982, together with FIAT (currently FCA – Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) Speroni took the centralized tool room and Tool Management System application to the next level.
As written on the article from American Machinist, between 5,000 and 6,000 different cutting tool assemblies were delivered on time every day on scores of machine tools on 5 automotive-engine-machining lines.
